On March 27th, 2020, Humza Izhar received the heartbreaking news his father passed away due to COVID-19. Four days later, he was experiencing fevers, and developed a cough like no other. He could not do everyday activities like eating, or even laughing, without coughing uncontrollably. After visiting the pediatrician, he was taking a lot of cough syrup and other pills, but nothing seemed to quite work. He then visited an urgent care facility, and an X-Ray showed his right lung collapsed and was filled with fluid. He was rushed to the hospital, and shortly after a large tumor was found sitting on top of his lungs, compressing them. On May 17th, 2020, 16 year old Humza Izhar was diagnosed with T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma. It has been a very tough journey for him and his family ever since.
Humza has been battling chemotherapy for the past 8 months, experiencing the painful and overwhelming symptoms that have come with it. He had high hopes for the year 2021, but was unfortunately experiencing extreme pain in his muscles and joints at the start of the new year. On January 4th, 2021, Humza’s doctors found Avascular Necrosis (AVN) of his knee bone, an excruciatingly painful disease due to the lack of blood supply.
Humza is a bright and loving boy, who enjoys playing the viola and playing soccer. During his free time, he sketches, watches movies, and helps in the kitchen whenever he can. He has been staying positive during this journey, and still manages to maintain high grades during his last year in high school.
